What is Academic Therapy?
Most tutoring consists of reinforcing material presented in class and providing additional practice and repetition in the subject. Often, for the student with weakness in reading (including dyslexia), comprehension or writing, the approaches being used in school are not being successful, so spending more time using the unsuccessful approach provides limited improvement. There are specialized, research-based programs that are more successful for these students than the approaches being used at school. These programs are designed for one-to-one instruction and require specialized training for the instructor to be successful. While Academic Therapy starts with the specialized program, it also requires working one-on-one with the student which allows the instructor to adjust the material and methods to the needs the student. Finally, our staff works as a team, which means that every student will have several dedicated professionals involved with their instruction.
